Interns at NPR play a vital role in NPR’s daily operations in almost every division of the organization — from NPR News and Music to Communications and Engineering. Interns are also offered training and networking opportunities.

Why was NPR Summer Internship cancelled?

NPR has made the difficult decision to cancel the Summer 2023 internship program due to an economic shortfall caused by declining corporate sponsorship revenue. The network has to make $10 million in budget cuts.

NPR is committed to providing a positive intern experience and hopes to be able to reinstate it soon. Interns remain a vital asset to NPR’s content and culture — many of NPR’s best-known journalists, hosts, and executives started as interns.

NPR fully understand the value of this program for NPR and the public radio system.
