South32 Bursary South Africa Requirements

South32, a global mining corporation initially founded in 2015, presently engages in the extraction and production of metals in four countries: Australia, Mozambique, South Africa, and Colombia.

They are well known for mining and producing bauxite, silver, nickel, zinc, manganese, aluminium, alumina, lead, metallurgical coal, thermal coal, and coking coal.

At South32, the mission is articulated as “making a difference by developing natural resources, improving current lives, and benefiting future generations.” Owing to South32`s commitment to fostering community development they introduced the South32 bursary scheme to assist aspiring and financially needed students in the field of STEM and non-STEM.

The bursary aims to enhance the skills within the mining districts, extending beyond the mining sector and playing a role in diversifying the local economy.

Later in 2020, the company changed the name of the bursary from South32 to Dr. Xolani Mkhwanazi South32 Bursary to honour Dr. Xolani Mkhwanazi their former Non-Executive Director.

South32 Bursary South Africa Requirements

Candidates must meet the following minimum eligibility criteria before applying (please be aware that failure to meet all the requirements will result in your application not being reviewed):

  • South African citizen
  • Completed Matric or currently in Matric
  • You should be enrolled in or have the intention to enrol in one of the specified programs mentioned earlier.
  • You must be enrolled in or have the intention to enrol at a recognized and accredited higher education institution in South Africa.
  • You must have a strong academic record
  • Engineering and Geology degree students: must have achieved a minimum of level 6 for Mathematics and Science in Matric.
  • Proven financial need
  • Priority will be granted to students residing in the vicinity of the mining operations.

The deadline for bursary applications is November 27. Any submissions made after this date will not be considered. Candidates are strongly advised to finalize and submit their application forms before the specified deadline.
