MBARI Summer Internship 2024 (Complete Guide)

It’s that time of the year again when the doors of MBARI is open for their Summer Internship Program. As an intern, you stand the chance of equipping yourself with rich skills at MBARI. And their internship comes with a stipend and there’s a housing facility for those from far places.

About MBARI

MBARI stands for the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, which is a private, non-profit oceanographic research center located in Moss Landing, California. The institute conducts research on a wide range of topics related to the ocean, including oceanography, geology, biology, and engineering.

MBARI’s research is focused on the Monterey Bay and the surrounding coastal regions, and it uses a variety of tools and techniques, including ships, submarines, robots, and remote sensing devices, to study the ocean and its inhabitants. The organization also provides education and outreach programs to the public.

MBARI’s Summer Internship Program

The Program provides an opportunity for talented college students (undergraduate and graduate) and educators to work directly with MBARI scientists, engineers, and communicators and learn from the rich experiences.

MBARI’s state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including research vesselsremotely operated vehicles (ROVs), and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), offer educators and students unique opportunities to collaborate on advanced research and development projects.

The program immerses interns in collaborative teams as they learn innovative research and engineering techniques and improve communication skills. Each intern will have an MBARI mentor who will supervise a specific project for a 10-week duration.

Interns also serve as peer-mentors to each other. There is a stipend (2023 stipend was $17/hour) and the program is full-time. MBARI will try and assist with housing for those interns coming from out of the area.
