ABSIP Bursary South Africa Requirements 2024/2025

The ABSIP Bursary is a financial aid program offered by the Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP) in South Africa. This financial aid is aimed at supporting deserving black South African students who are pursuing studies in fields related to the financial services sector.

ABSIP Bursary Requirements

To be eligible for the ABSIP Bursary, you must meet the following requirements:

  • South African citizenship: You must be a South African citizen. Being a citizen of South Africa is one of the many requirements for applying for the ABSIP Bursary Programme.
  • Historically disadvantaged background: The applicant must come from a historically disadvantaged background. This means that you were previously denied educational or economic opportunities due to apartheid or other forms of discrimination. You must be transparent in your application as any false information may affect your chances of being shortlisted.
  • Black identity: You must identify as Black as defined by the B-BBEE Act.
  • Relevant studies: You must be studying or intending to study full-time towards a qualification related to investment management, such as accounting, finance, economics, or business administration.
  • Financial need: The applicant must demonstrate financial need. This means that you do not have enough financial resources to cover your education costs without the bursary.
  • No permanent work experience: You must not have any permanent work experience, except for vacation work.
  • Not a STANLIB employee or relative: You must not be a STANLIB employee or a relative of a STANLIB employee.
  • Leadership qualities and extracurricular activities (preferable): You should preferably demonstrate leadership qualities and have participated in extracurricular activities.
  • ABSIP student membership: You must sign up for a free ABSIP student membership.

If you meet all of the eligibility requirements, you can apply for the ABSIP Bursary online via the ABSIP website. The application deadline is usually in July or August each year.

The ABSIP Bursary covers the following costs:

  • Tuition fees
  • Registration fees
  • Accommodation
  • Books and stationery
  • Living expenses
